Most Livable Cities in the World - is Yours on the List?
by sammielee24 inin case the olympics weren't drawing enough attention to city of vancouver, this year's economist intelligence unit's list of the world's most livable cities has declared the canadian city the number one urban area in which to settle down.. if you are surprised, well, you shouldn't be, due to the fact that vancouver is a consistent high achiever in these polls.
what is it about the city that makes it so great?
according to the economist's gulliver blog, canada and australia do exceptionally well in the eiu rankings due to their perfect scores for health care and education.. some of the other rankings might be more surprising, however - for example, what does one make of the fact that detroit (40th) beats both london (54th) and new york (56th)?.

I’ve lived in both Sydney and Melbourne and much as I hate to say it…..
Melbourne is the more livable city.

For born ins- what tipped you off it was wrong
by teela(2) inat a young age i remember watching tv and commenting why is the red cross always helping people and we don't.
the second big one is if the witnesses only started up in 1890 - 1900 did jehovah not have anyone else doing the preaching work?.
as a child i don't think we think about theological problems so what tipped you off?

The Greatest Man book – when we were studying it for the 3 rd time, the parallels between the Pharisees and the elders/WTS jumped out at me. Jesus as a person came across as a loving caring person, yet in comparison, the WTS was the complete opposite, making up rules as they went, rules that should have been a conscience decision.
Also the lack of love – a close friend was df’d and he was treated like a leper when he came back, despite crawling back for a year.
Good people dying at Armageddon – non-JWs. This was probably the first WTS doctrine I started to question.
I left for doctrinal reasons. At the same time, I began looking up information on the JWs on the internet and the rest is history….

As a Witness were you allowed to eat Easter eggs AFTER Easter and only if smashed up first??
by Witness 007 inmy favourite was a humpty dumpty full of mm's....but we could only buy them after easter and if we broke them up....my mothers orders.....tonnes of half price eggs after easter..
-
Broken Promises
Never.
The only easter eggs we were allowed to eat were the ones which came in the Sydney Royal Easter Show bags. I usually ended up with 2 or 3 eggs from the showbags.
Otherwise, no, we never bought easter eggs. And as an adult, I don’t think I bought any until I left the JWs.

Suppose a worldly person knows too much about the WTS
by dgp insuppose a practicing and, to all appearances, true jw knew a worldly person (me) knows a lot more about the wts than the typical jw would expect.
i mean, the person knows the wts's structure, the general information about the basic theories (chronology, other sheep, the flocks, the anointed...).
i believe that this jw would immediately suspect that the worldly has visited "apostate" sites.

dpg,
I think you know enough about JWs by now to know the reaction you would receive, and the one you offered would be pretty right.
If you wanted to approach the JW with what you knew, I’d say, don’t. Let her give out information first, and then counter it with common sense, and then a few details here and there.
If you reveal too much information too soon, you will frighten her off.
Just let her get to know what a handsome and charming guy you are, and then she won’t be able to resist your charms!

Not Getting Over It! Ex-JWs Face Residual Psychological, Physical Damage
by TMS inthis is not an essay or "my story".
these are just a few personal observations from someone who lived, breathed and.
slept the jw religion for over 50 years.

Broken Promises
TMS, I left after being a born-in JW for 30 years, and I agree fully with your post.
I think there is a great deal of post-trauma syndrome experienced by people who leave the JWs. Many say they stopped being depressed or having health problems when they left the JWs, but think there are just as many who develop health problems as a result of living and leaving the JWs.
For one thing, leavers have their complete spiritual path ripped away from them, and many wander around lost, without direction, after having surrendered their entire spiritual life to the whims of men.
I don’t need to go into details of the physical and emotional losses ex-JWs experience but this whole board is a testament to the pain and suffering that results from leaving that cult.
